Slack as the Agent Interface

LinkedIn ·

Slack just shipped one of the most important enterprise releases of the year. And it says a lot about how Salesforce is executing on its AI strategy (visual below).

The Slackbot MCP client is now generally available. Any application that follows the MCP standard can now connect to Slackbot, and users can interact with their external AI tools right from Slack.

I've been bullish on Slack as the interface for enterprise AI for a while. The thesis comes down to a pattern in platform strategy: the layer closest to the human often accumulates leverage over everything beneath it, because it controls distribution and attention.

For a lot of companies, that layer is Slack, and the reason is the network effect. Slack became the place where humans interact with their human teammates. Your whole company is already there. It's where conversations happen and where response times are fastest in the enterprise. That's very hard to dislodge.

That same position now makes Slack the natural layer where humans interact with their agents and AI tools. People aren't going to adopt a new interface for every agent they use.

Slack has been the interface where we talk to our teammates. It's now best positioned to be the interface where we work with our agents.
